You’ve probably played dozens of hunting simulators by now. And you hardly expect anything new from this one. You’re wrong! Duck Season is nothing like all the games you’ve played before. Its experimental concept and twisted story will make you view duck hunting from a totally different perspective…

As soon as we enter the game we are shown a certain background about how a mother rents a new game for her son for one day. After that, the gameplay begins. We watch a video on TV where we are told how to play. Next, we plunge into the game itself … Literally plunge, as we find ourselves behind the screen and if we turn around, we’ll see our main character, looking at the monitor with enthusiasm.

The essence of the game is not just to kill the ducks, but to open various endings, as well as to find all sorts of clues and secrets from the developers. There are seven possible outcomes and often it all depends on whether you shoot a dog in the game or not. But there are other factors at play too. You never know which of your actions will influence the course of the story. That makes the whole process very unpredictable and exciting.

Apart from shooting ducks and getting points for it, there are plenty of other things you can do. For instance, you can diversify your gaming experience by playing other games stacked in the room. Many of the objects are interactive meaning you can pick them up, replace them and perform other manipulations. Not that it actually affects the events, but it allows you to submerge deeper into the entire atmosphere, feel like you’re actually in the hero’s room. Since the action takes place in the 80’s, you also have a chance to relive your own childhood and delve into sweet nostalgia about the times when you yourself was a teenager discovering the very first clumsy video games.

In general, the game is made on a rather decent level. There is a huge amount of secrets and content that won’t let you get bored. The environment is carefully replicated down to the last detail, you can really feel a certain ambience that cloaks you from head to toe. And as the game progresses, when mystical events being to happen, you readily get absorbed into the story. Everything is staged so subtly that at some moments you get shivers. The presence of multiple endings gives you an opportunity to change the course of the plot with your own decisions and see how it affects the events with interest. In other words, if you haven’t played Duck Season yet, you should definitely do it!
